My name is Ilona, and I’m a hair colorist with 12 years of experience — and for me, this profession is more than a job, it’s a lifestyle. I’m originally from Mykolaiv, a city in southern Ukraine, and for the last six years, I lived and worked in Kyiv, where I grew both creatively and professionally. Three months ago, I moved to the U.S. and started a brand new chapter here in Texas.
I’ve always known I wanted to be a hairstylist. No doubts, no backup plans — just a clear sense that this is what I was meant to do. Right after finishing school, I dove headfirst into beauty school, and that was just the beginning. From there, I kept learning: private courses, hands-on training, masterclasses — always staying curious and open to new techniques. Eventually, I opened my own small studio in Mykolaiv, but I craved more — more movement, more scale, more growth. That’s what brought me to Kyiv, and now, to the U.S.
I believe that a good hairstylist isn’t just about skilled hands — it’s also about listening with your heart. Sure, I can recreate a photo or a trend, but what truly inspires me is understanding my client’s story and creating something that feels just right for them. That’s where the real magic happens.
Early Years
I grew up in the warm, sunny city of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine. From a very young age, I was “the family hairdresser” — styling dolls, friends, and occasionally even convincing my mom to let me experiment. It was all fun and curiosity at first, but that spark quickly turned into a real passion.
After graduating school, I went straight into beauty training — when your heart knows what it wants, there’s no point wasting time. During my studies, I fell in love with color. Hair coloring felt like painting to me — only the canvas is someone’s hair, and the result can completely shift how they see themselves.
I’ve always been open to exploring new things — I even dabbled in other careers for the experience — but I kept coming back to hair. It’s where my soul feels most alive. I also love psychology, staying active through sports, and watching documentaries — especially about people who’ve transformed their lives. I guess I’ve always believed that change is a beautiful thing. And sometimes, all it takes to start that change… is a new hair color.
